Egypt – Being Spiritually Fed

After a nap in the Kenyan airport, we got on our plane to Egypt around 4:45am. Though tired, we were all excited to enter Egypt as our last country of the African leg. We arrived at our hostel where we stayed for a few nights, where they blessed us with comfortable beds, warm showers and breakfast each morning. During our time in Cairo, we had the incredible privilege of seeing the Pyramids while riding camels! What an extraordinary thought it was that we were standing in the land connected to some of the biggest Bible stories. We were truly in awe of the place where we were after...

Tanzania – Teaching Us to Rely on the Lord

The wheels on the bus do not go round and round. It is safe to say that our time in Tanzania started off with a bang. We arrived at the border in true African fashion; only a single day later than hoped for. This however did not show effect on moral to the news that we would be starting with our second Travel Challenge of the year. Despite the hint of exhaustion in the eyes of the team, many were excited and expectant for the opportunity to travel the full 1010km on nothing but prayers, guidance from the Holy Spirit and a small amount of money. We were blown away by the Father heart...

Egypt – A Three Course Meal Of Spiritual Food

Eastbound and Westbound had the privilege of staying together during the first half of our time in Egypt. More so, some of the staff and volunteers from Global came from Jeffery’s Bay to visit us in Anafora, where we did a Bible Study course, called Veritas 2. What a blessing it was to learn about the Old Testament while being in the place where so many of the stories took place! God came and filled us with His Word. We did Veritas in the mornings and manual labour in the afternoons. We also got to know more about the Coptic church. Through it all, we learned to glorify God...

Kenya – 3 Weeks, 2 Teams, 1 Ministry Point.

Kenya – 3 Weeks, 2 Teams, 1 Ministry Point. To abide and to dwell. This has been our experience of Kenya. Creation sings of His peace and power with vividly green fields, picturesque hills and gentle rivers that make you feel like you’re living in the psalms. His presence is everywhere. Our team has often been gifted with the opportunity to step away from civilization and seek Him intimately. This was true for Kenya too. There, we were presented with an area where our spirits could dwell with Him and hear His voice, much like a friend sitting next to...

The Bishop That Broke Our Boxes

Bishop Thomas walks into the room, and all forty-three of us stand. We’ve been waiting for this moment. He’s a revered leader in the Coptic Church, known for his long walk with the Lord and deep wisdom. To our surprise, he greets us in Afrikaans, and in the 40-degree heat of Anafora, Egypt, I sit back in my chair and realise something: some of my boxes are about to be broken.  Thirty-six students and seven of us volunteers travelled to Egypt, where the Coptic Church welcomed us with remarkable generosity and care. A visit from a bishop is considered a great honour, something...
