Vibrant and Colourful Brazil

Westbound’s time in Brazil began on the 4th of June. We were greeted by a lovely and passionate group of people who would be our hosts for the next 17 days: Igreja Atitude (Attitude Church). We stayed at their missions base in Jandira, while the church itself is based in Alphaville, São Paulo. The distinction between the two areas is quite noticeable—Alphaville is a wealthy neighbourhood, while the missions base is located in a less fortunate community. We were taken straight from the airport to the missions base, where we met some of the staff we would be working with. They...

Egypt – A Three Course Meal Of Spiritual Food

Eastbound and Westbound had the privilege of staying together during the first half of our time in Egypt. More so, some of the staff and volunteers from Global came from Jeffery’s Bay to visit us in Anafora, where we did a Bible Study course, called Veritas 2. What a blessing it was to learn about the Old Testament while being in the place where so many of the stories took place! God came and filled us with His Word. We did Veritas in the mornings and manual labour in the afternoons. We also got to know more about the Coptic church. Through it all, we learned to glorify God...

Malawi

Filled with beauty and splendour, this country came and touched our hearts. Smiling faces and lots of high-fives followed Westbound, wherever we went in Malawi.  At out first ministry point we learnt to behold and soak in the beauty of God. We stayed in a village called Chitimba in the Northern Region of Malawi, at a campsite with our hosts – a married couple representing the FCE (Foundation for Cross-cultural Education) organisation. There, we were blessed with wonderful, rare experiences. We attended churches accompanied by singing and dancing with the...

Zimbabwe

Joy and unity in all circumstances. Our team of 19 young people had the privilege of spending a week in a rural village in Zimbabwe, 32km south of Victoria Falls. There, we camped our tents in a homestead and lived alongside the locals, experiencing pieces of their everyday life. The Lord demonstrated much joy and unity in the body of Christ throughout our time in Zimbabwe. From dancing and singing joyously at a funeral, to carrying compost and mulching in complete tandem with the local community, this has been an eye-opening experience with much food for thought for...

Costa Rica – Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Costa Rica. For some reason, just the name held a certain excitement for our team. Entering this beautifully green and humid land, we immediately felt something was stirring. Part of it was that our team had been split up for two weeks for ministry in Honduras, our previous country, we were excited to be back together. Another part of it was that our Luke 10 was coming up. And perhaps the other part was that this would be our last country in Central America, before we would fly out to Turkey. A lot had been building up to this arrival. Now it was finally here. Our base was an...
