Egypt – A Three Course Meal Of Spiritual Food

Eastbound and Westbound had the privilege of staying together during the first half of our time in Egypt. More so, some of the staff and volunteers from Global came from Jeffery’s Bay to visit us in Anafora, where we did a Bible Study course, called Veritas 2. What a blessing it was to learn about the Old Testament while being in the place where so many of the stories took place! God came and filled us with His Word. We did Veritas in the mornings and manual labour in the afternoons. We also got to know more about the Coptic church. Through it all, we learned to glorify God with everything we do!

Our Westbound team was split into two teams. One went to Cairo. The other team to Dahab. In both spaces, God continued to feed us with His Word.

The Dahab team learned to how to intercede and dwell constantly in the presence of God. Reading the Bible out loud in different slots until 12AM and worshipping and praying every morning for Dahab was an awakening experience. Constant proclamation of God’s truth aloud became a reminder of how powerful He is. God spoke first to us about His holiness, then about fearing Him, and lastly of His love and joy. Helping our host with children’s camp preparations and hearing her heart for the locals inspired us even more to express the love of God to all around us.

The Cairo team focused on manual labour. They had the privilege of spending a day volunteering at an open day at a primary school in the area. We also had ample opportunity to experience Cairo’s culture and connect with people whenever we went, be it in the nearby street market over food, or at an InDrive – which often provided us with good conversations (over Google translate) and more insight into the local’s lives.

Our time in Egypt started and ended in Cairo. It was such a blessing to be there, and to be filled with Spiritual food!

Both the Dahab and Cairo teams were blessed with experiences that we will cherish long after leaving Egypt.
