Luke 10: Where am I and what am I doing?

Luke 10: Where am I and what am I doing?

Every Luke 10 faith journey looks different. The single similarity however is the golden thread of God’s greatness that is weaved into each adventure. This greatness is often displayed in the provision, protection and extraordinary miracles God does through ordinary people.

Lights, Camera, Action!

I don't really know how to start or how to write this blog. How does one explain 6 countries done living by faith for one month just a few sentences... I'll try my best to just give you a glimpse of my experiences of our  time in central America. It's been a complete faith journey the whole time. Have you ever wondered how life would be like if you put your trust 100% in God?  Well... He might just ask you to pioneer Mexico and do your Luke 10 from Cancun, Mexico to Guatemala for 10days. But that 10days was not enough to establish pure faith. So God asked us to do 5 countries in 6days. We all arrived safely in Costa Rica on the 6th day with a extra bit of faith in our pockets.  I just simply cannot put it into words, I highly recommend you just try it yourself So here's a few photos for inspiration:

ThIs heat got some beat...

So after cold and grey Russia we arrived in Cuba..stepping of the plane I was welcomed with the heat of the Caribbean and people talking, laughing and smiling. Driving out of the airport it felt like I went back in time. There is nothing modern in Cuba, everything is still the Same as in the 80's.  I was amazed to see how people just carried on living in that way. The music is everywhere and as you go you catch the one beat from the other one. There's people dancing in the streets in their houses in restaurants. Spanish lesson 101 : where is the bathroom PLEASE (Donde esta el banjo porvavor) is the most important sentence you can learn.  I had such a blast meeting up with the Gladois team and spending time with them. They are such amazing people of God. They give so much of themselves and expect nothing in return. I made a wonderful new friends especially Maggie. We had so much fun climbing up the Grand Piedra, we even hitched hike up and down! Hahahaha I don't know who prayed more for a lift me or her... We were blessed with amazing food everyday and had so much 1 pesO icecream luckily we walked almost 6 km per day 2 or 3 times..hint hint it didn't work... The 1 pesO icecream I carry now on my hips..lol..  From yaelin making really silly jokes and having a who can eat the most grand piedra icecream competition to sleeping in our hamocks on the roof of the church looking out over the Caribbean Sea then me buying a piece of land in the middle of the crossing road aka that means I fell down in the middle of the road with cherise and Jay walking on not hearing me scream and fall luckily Jojo came to the rescue after he stood and laughed at me for not being able to stand up, me and Jay pulling our faces really bad in situations we rather not speak of...sitting on the top of the church roof drinking coffee with cherise at night looking at the stars and having deep conversations about life and Jesus.. getting on the back of a motorcycle for a joy ride just for fun, being completely overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit... road tripping 13 hours on a old schoolbus/truck to get to Santeago and back to Havana, to getting baptised on the 22nd of Mei 2016 yaay and sleeping on the airport in a corner making sure there is a plug to charge our phones and boil the kettle in the morning for some cup of the coffee... laughing so hard that your tummy aches for 2 days..stepping deeper into Gods presense and His plan for my life!! what more do you want?? Sharing all of this with this team of mine just made it even more special. 5 months has past and I can say that this team is truly my family.  Thank you Jesus!

He greets me with grace.

The journey of grace started in Russia and by the end of Cuba while sitting in a coffee shop drinking coffee that tastes like sea water and being told to keep quiet by the waitress because we laughing too loud, God concluded the first part of an unending series of His grace.

Guard your heart

Why do we make life so complicated? Why do we so easily make mountains out of mere ant hills? It is not supposed to be this difficult and I dare say it is rather tiring to worry about everything all the time.  My stay in Egypt these past two weeks has been a time of growth and transformation. Firstly I would like to mention that all the pictures I have seen, all the history that I have read and heard throughout my years of study about this wonderful place, I could have never imagined it to be so glorious in person. It was like being in a dream.  The biggest lesson however, I learned was at a spiritual oasis called Anaphora. It certainly lived up to it's name. I do not know wether it was the stillness and tranquility,  the flowers, or the lack of connectivity to the outside world and everything in between which made it such a wonderful place but I have come to the conclusion that wherever there is peace there is freedom.  There is so much peace and tranquility there, you just want to remain there forever. It is a place to recharge and renew your mind end even your soul. It is where you feel God in the stillness. I know that He is good. The nuns, whom we call sisters, are beautiful and inspiring. They have so much patience and love, the fruits of the spirit are ever present in everything they do. The other volunteers especially from Sweden and France have stolen a piece of my heart which I will never want back. They have changed my life. Our stay at Anafora will always be longed for in the future to come. God had some things to reveal to me. He has been constantly and slowly moulding my mind and heart to become more like His and pursuing me with a love that conquers every fear. I am learning to love people I do not always like, I am learning to be content with what I have, to be quiet and still and to trust in His timing, for His favor will always come.  I received a revelation specifically about the heart and where it is pointing to. In Proverbs 4: 23 it says: "Keep thy heart with all diligence, for it determines the course of your life."  What is so significant about our entire time in Egypt is that this verse came alive to me through Egyptian mythology. In Egyptian mythology there is a god called Anubis. He guards the gate to the underworld. The Ancient Egyptians believed that when you died, you travelled to the Hall of the Dead. There Anubis weighed your heart against the feather of Ma'at. Ma'at, the goddess of justice sits on top of the scales to make sure that the weighing is carried out properly. If your heart was lighter than the feather, you lived for ever. If your heart was heavier than the feather then it was eaten by the demon Ammit, the Destroyer. The message is quite direct and clear. Our hearts determine the course of our life. If our hearts are set on the wrong course and it is filled with the wrong intentions, it is going to be complicated and difficult. But if it is set on God we can be more than conquerers in even the most trying times. "The boundaries in our lives are determined by what goes on in our hearts."- Brian Houston In other words we do not need to strive for others attention or validation to make us feel better about ourselves. This is not what our hearts should be set on. It should be set on Jesus. The only one who is worthy enough to give opinion and validation.  Our hearts determine the course of our life. If it is set on Jesus then it does not matter what our circumstances are or what others say, when we keep our eyes focussed on the one who is love and and the source of peace, we need never to look down but only up.  I have gained a peace in my heart which I never want to lose. Because I know my God is already in front of me preparing the way.  Anafora, I will always carry our time together in my heart. You have taught my heart to rest in His embrace and to be still and know. He is God and He will always be there to pick me up when I fall.

I…give…up!

Probably the most spoken phrase of all time, every time we fail or see something is too difficult for us, or even if it requires too much time or sacrifice. This is probably one of the most difficult habits to break in life. Why? Probably because it roots to self. The one thing that keeps us away from most of things, self like most of us know only consists of 3 things; “me, myself and I”. Oh sorry, that’s all the same thing, just goes to show how bad self is, self-centred and selfish.

The sound of love announcing his forgiveness

Many of times we hear how much God loves us and wish nothing but the best for all his children; the ones that know his love and the ones that don’t know it as much. Looking back at my life, knowing all the wrong that I have done to others and myself, I’ve said and done things that I will always be ashamed of, the worst was not knowing if I am really forgiven. I’ve read the scripters and have said the words out loud, but still every detail of my past was not forgiven; well at least not all, according to me, looking for any sign that God loves me and that he will take care of me, regardless of my past. Seeing so many miracles happen to so many people around me but never to me, then having the devil having some fun in my head telling me lies to make me believe that he does not love me as much as the others. So having this scenario play out for years going round and round in my life…………………..

Luke10

So this is the account of our Luke10 faith journey. This story starts with two guys setting out on an adventure. Jesus sent out his disciples two by two into towns to prepare the way for the kingdom. We prayed and felt God said we should travel through Argentina to the city of Asuncion in Paraguay. I asked God to show me His love on this Luke 10...He did.

We departed from Turkey almost two months ago already, but it was such an overwhelming experience to be a pilgrim in the country where a big part of the new testament plays off that I struggled to put it into words. Here is my attempt at celebrating the highlights!

The Tale Of The Hairy Coconut

The Tale Of The Hairy Coconut

Venezuela. A country that has been sitting on the drawing board of Distant Worlds for many months. A name that has been written on our itinerary and on our hearts. And finally, a country that we can say we have been able to share the Good News with.

Due to turmoil within the country's borders, Distant Worlds was kept from going to Venezuela. We detoured to Santa Marta for ten days, waiting upon The Lord for our next step. Sure enough, while praying, Venezuela seeped into our prayers again. Here is a point-form summary of how we were able to enter Venezuela.

pink, my favourite colour?the story continues...

More recently i am convinced that the greatest battle you will ever fight is for your FIRST LOVE! The greatest call you will ever answer is the call to RETURN to your creator! The greatest purpose of your existence is for intimacy. You have been saved for GOD! "And this is eternal life, that they know You, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." [john 17:3]. What an Awe inspiring God we serve, the King of the universe loves and pursues a creation that's predisposition is to betray and reject HIM! But before you begin to think that this is another one of those pieces that will make you feel guilty about being a human listen to this Story ...

Sitting in Doha...

A 13 hour wait in the Doha airport, Qatar while waiting for our connecting flight allows for a uniquely perfect environment for the creation of new and boardum deifying games, including sock sliding and stress ball soccer. Not to mention people gazing ,which is way more interesting here and lots of time to think...
